Citizen of the Year (March, 2009)

In every community, there are those who give tirelessly to the community in which they live. And those who give the most are seldom given thanks for their time, effort and compassion. That's why the annual awards for Hanover Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievement were created.

The awards were presented on Wed., March 4 at the annual general meeting of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce. The awards are sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, The Post and Youth Roots.

This year's Citizen of the Year is Sandra Schreinert.   Schreinert gives her time and effort generously to her church, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Hanover & District.

Schreinert gives her time and effort generously to her church, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Hanover & District, as well as to her community. She has been an active member of BBBS for more than three years, serving on the board of directors and organizing events such as the golf tournament.  She has been involved in the Community Kitchen Program - a joint program between the Grey Bruce Public Health and BBBS. And when new families come to the church, they are welcomed with muffins, an idea that originated with Schreinert.
