CIBC donates $1,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover & District through passionate employee

Helping fund pairing of ‘Littles’ with ‘Bigs’ and in-school mentoring for local kids

HANOVER, ON, November 5, 2009 – Johanne Stewart’s devotion to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover & District extends more than 17 years, 11 of which has been as a member of the agency’s board of directors. As a District Administration Assistant at CIBC, she recently arranged for a $1,000 donation from CIBC to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover & District through the bank’s Employer As Ambassador program, which recognizes the difference employees make by volunteering their time and expertise for good causes.

This brings the bank’s total donations to the local agency to $13,000.

“We were all excited getting the news of this donation,” said Sally Kormann, the case worker at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover & District. “We’re all about the kids here, and this funding means that we can carry on supporting all the programs we offer the kids. We’re very grateful to CIBC for their continued support.”

“We have been serving the community since 1972 with the traditional big/little matches and since 1999 with the in-school mentoring program,” added Kormann. “Today, there are 44 local children in the big/little program and another 46 in the in-school mentoring program. We also offer a wide range of programs that serve both boys and girls.”

“CIBC believes in giving back to the communities where we live and work,” said Tim Norwood, CIBC’s Associate Vice-President for the GreyBruceDistrict. “We are pleased to make this donation in recognition of Johanne’s volunteer efforts and the good work the agency does to help local youth achieve their potential.”

“It’s great to have this kind of support from your employer,” said Stewart. “CIBC is a great organization and I appreciate the funding through the Employee as Ambassador program. It really shows the bank’s commitment to their employees, especially in these challenging economic times.”

CIBC is committed to supporting causes that matter to our clients, our employees and our communities.  We aim to make a difference in communities through corporate donations, sponsorships and the volunteer spirit of employees.  With a strategic focus on youth, education and health, and employee commitment to causes including the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, the CIBC Children’s Foundation and United Way, we are investing in the social and economic development of communities across the country.
