If you were anywhere near the office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover & District on Monday October 29th, you may have heard the strange and eerie howl of wolves echoing in the streets - you may have been greeted by "Groucho", waving as you drove through the lights - or perhaps you noticed a variety of goulish characters parading about within the walls of the BBBS office. 36 Volunteers, Parents and Big/Little Brothers/Sisters filled the Big Brothers Big Sisters office, taking part in the Annual Halloween Party. The crowd enjoyed an evening filled with spooks, scares and sweets. "Littles" came sporting their favourite Halloween attire as did some of the Volunteers and parents. Pumpkin carving, creating cupcake spiders, scarey popcorn hands, ghost writers and witchy brooms kept the children busy and happy. Prizes were awarded to the scariest, and most original costumes; the scariest and funniest jack-o-lantern; the most work going into creating a valentine for a hospitalized veteran.
This was a great group of children! The delight in their young faces as they approached each new activity with energy and anticipation, served as a reward for each of the volunteers. Utterances of "Thank you" for the nice party, passed through each child’s lips as they packed up newly carved pumpkins, treats, and a barrage of crafts and colourings and headed home. If you would like to add some spark to a Little Brother or Sister’s life by being their friend, call the BBBS office. 364-1444. There are children in Mildmay, Walkerton, Hanover, and Durham, waiting to be matched with a special friend.
