"What can I say about Mildmay other than WOW.!! It was great seeing all of you again at the Midwestern Celebrity Hockey game Sunday. Your support was overwhelming as it has been over the past 2 years. I look at your community and I wonder where you get the warmth. I always say a community that works together like yours will always be on the map of “MOST WANTED” to be a part of.
When I contacted the Newton and Swanton families about being honoured guests at the game they were just great in accepting the invitation. If you played hockey you should be very proud to have had the opportunity to have had Wayne either coach, play or be an executive along side of you. Darcy was a player. He loved the game and had lots of time learning from Wayne. He enjoyed being goalie and he sure played the game with heart. Darcy was a good friend of the late Greg Dietz as well as a great Team-Mate to the guys he played with. If you had the chance to be with these two in the sports field then you were so blessed.
Having the support of the familys and the Lions Club who sponsored the ice time for the hockey and Sandy`s Family Resturuant for the ice time for the FREE family skating, I knew that it was going to be a great day. This year the weather COOPERATED!! Working with great people like Don Cherity (aka Paul Schuett) was a charm, I think they liked you “Paul” , you go out of your way don’t you? HOPE your ready for next year, I am working on it already.
Arranging such an event is a big undertaking but when you deal with Mildmay you are sure to have a great event happen. As I watched the game Sunday I saw what I know about your community, and it was overwhelming the warmth you all share when it comes to a community being involved.
It was great to see the children involved as they hung out with Cubby and had the opportunity to have the N.H.L. players sign their photos for them. It leads to wonder, is there a possible “GREAT ONE” or maybe a N.H.L. player, in the future.
I thank you Mayor Goetz for being a part of the game. I’m sure you saw what Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about- the children and all the volunteers who give to this cause. You have such a warm and cosy community we were proud to be a part of it. We are also proud to have had you attend and we hope you enjoyed the day. THANK YOU.
It takes approxemently $1400.00 to assist each child per year, so events like this hockey game is needed to help support the needs of our children. There are children in your community still waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. It is they who we strive to work for. It is great what you have done for us. I cannot go without thanking Garry and Audrey Dietz and family for their donation. They have been a great support to our agency and we can`t thank you enough. Also to Janice Swanton who won the 50/50 draw - $206.00 - she donated it back to our agency. God Bless you all.
I already am working on the next year`s event. Over the next few weeks watch the Town Crier to see who I have planned to dedicate our game to and which family we will be honouring. At press time I did not have all the details in place so keep an eye. So you see it is the warm cosy community that makes things happen. Speaking of the Town Crier, I want to give credit to John and Susan for ALL they have done for us. The many changes I HAD to make in our ad, just before press time, the EXTRA printing they HAD to do for me. This is also called “great” business. Mildmay, you are so very lucky to have your OWN little home town paper. The true strength drawn in times that are too hard to bear can be made easier IF you just work with a community as Mildmay. Trust me, I have.
