Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover

BBBS held the first Community Kitchen event Monday, November 4, 2008. The BBBS agency partnered with Public Health and received a grant from them to fund the program. CTV News from Kitchener filmed the event and using it as a feature news item, airing November 11th.

The set of five community kitchen events was so successful that an application was made and received for a second session. Sandra Schreinert has been the head Community Kitchen organizer and responsible for the success of the program. The sessions focus on making healthy, cost effective, simple meals for the busy single parent. It has been a time for the moms to meet other parents. One parent was quoted saying, "Community Kitchen is a great evening out for parents. There are lots of great healthy recipes and good conversation. I've met a really good friend in the group."

Sandra recruited numerous volunteers to help in preparing and running each monthly event. The last session held events in Sept., Oct., November and Dec. 2009. The last and final event will be held Monday, Dec. 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Grace United Church.
